Home/Network cabling

Network cabling, neat and hidden.

WiFi isn't always enough. We run network cable (Cat6A) and fibre to the home office, the TV corner and the office, hidden behind skirting boards or through walls, finished with proper network sockets and a patch panel.

Frequently asked questions about cabling and fibre

Cabling, fibre and patch panel

We run cable in existing buildings every week. Most things can be solved without tearing anything down.

What cable do you use?

We run Cat6 installation cable as standard. Cat6 installation cable is stiffer and made to stay fixed in the wall, unlike the soft patch cables you buy ready-made. Where the customer wants extra future-proofing, we run Cat7 network cable.

What is a patch panel and do I need one?

A patch panel is where all the cables meet and are labelled. A wall-mounted patch panel takes up no floor space and lets you see exactly which cable goes where, which saves hours on the day something needs troubleshooting or expanding.

Do you do fibre as well?

Yes. We run fibre inside the property, connect open fibre installations from the operator and carry out fibre installation with project planning in Stockholm for larger properties, where cable routes have to be drawn up before the work starts.

Where do you work?

All of Stockholm and the surrounding municipalities. We run network cable in Tyresö, Täby, Nacka, Värmdö, Norrtälje and Södertälje just as often as in the city centre.

We work across Stockholm and surroundings: Södermalm, Kungsholmen, Östermalm, Bromma and Vasastan just as often as Täby, Nacka, Solna, Sollentuna, Danderyd, Lidingö, Huddinge, Tyresö, Värmdö, Södertälje, Norrtälje and Vallentuna.

Where the cable runs

Running network cable at home: in walls, conduits, the loft and outdoors

Network cable installation is mostly about finding the right route. This is how we do it in a house, a terraced house or an apartment.

Running network cable in walls and between floors

We run network cable in walls with as little drilling as possible, ideally in existing electrical or telecom conduits. When the cable has to go between floors, it usually goes up into the loft and down through a wardrobe instead of us opening up the whole wall. In an old house it almost always pays to track down the old conduits first.

Outdoor network cable to the garage and guest cottage

If the network needs to reach the garage, guest cottage or shed, we use outdoor network cable: UV-resistant cable that withstands moisture and sub-zero temperatures, laid in the ground or along the facade. An ordinary indoor cable pushed through the wall will not last a winter.

Network sockets: mounting, wiring and replacement

We mount network sockets flush in the wall or surface-mounted, wire them up and label every socket. If you have a network socket that has stopped working, we replace or repair it, usually without running new cable.

Terminating and joining network cable

Terminating network cable correctly determines the speed. We terminate RJ45 to the same standard throughout the house so that every socket follows the same colour order. If we need to join network cable, it is done in a junction box, never as a loose joint behind a skirting board.

Choosing cable

How long a network cable do you need?

Before you order cable, here is how we calculate when we run cable in a house or apartment.

How many metres will it take?

Measure the route the cable actually takes, up into the ceiling and down the wall, not as the crow flies. On the same floor it usually comes to a 15m network cable, and between two floors you often end up at 40m. From the basement up to the loft in a house, a 50m network cable is a given, and a 100m network cable is the practical limit: beyond that, Ethernet loses out and we put a switch halfway. So a 100m Cat6 cable covers more or less any house.

Should you buy cable on a reel or in ready-made lengths?

When we do a fixed installation, we cut network cable by the metre from a reel and terminate it in sockets. That way the length is exact and you do not pay for leftover cable. Ready-made lengths are for connecting between sockets and equipment, not for building into walls.

Flat, angled or standard cable?

A flat network cable, sometimes sold as a slim network cable, is for slipping under a rug or door threshold. A 10m flat network cable solves a room temporarily, but it does not tolerate being bent again and again. An angled network cable has its connector bent at 90 degrees and saves the day in tight spots behind a wall-mounted TV. For anything that is meant to stay in place for twenty years, we use stiff Cat6 installation cable.
